Stipes Report
THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CHARLIE BUCKET (JP van der Merwe) was stubborn loading and restless in the stalls. b) MOMENT OF TRUTH (M Winnaar) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 100m, MOMENT OF TRUTH (M Winnaar) and SMART HORSE (L Mxothwa) made contact on two occasions when awkwardly placed on the inside of DAWN'S EARLY LIGHT (S Veale). b) Jockey R Fourie reported that, in his opinion, the performance of MR FOX was disappointing. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) When questioned regarding the performance of BEL CANTO DREAM compared to this gelding's previous run on 15 January 2025, Trainer AE Sands told the Stewards that he had been disappointed in this gelding's previous run and that on his return to the stables, the gelding had appeared lethargic. He further told the Stewards that, despite conducting numerous tests, he could not offer any explanation or reason for that performance. The Stewards noted his explanation and will monitor this gelding's future performances. d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding CHARLIE BUCKET (JP van der Merwe), this colt's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to load with a companion. (Suspension dates: 16/02/2025 to 22/02/2025 inclusive). CHARLIE BUCKET may not be presented for re-passing during this period. e) BEL CANTO DREAM, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AE Sands was advised.
