Race 9: ARTHUR HAVERGAL, JACOB KALT, MICHAEL COETZEE FM 81 DIVIDED HANDICAP (F & M) (For Fillies and Mares)

THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO WEARINGOFTHEGREEN (IRE) (C MAUJEAN) PROVING STUBBORN LOADING.

THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) 	WEARINGOFTHEGREEN (IRE) (C Maujean) was stubborn loading.
b)	PATCHES OF GREY (*N Nastili) and TEO TORRIATTE (J Penny) jumped inwards leaving the stalls.
c)	COFFEEBERRY (*G Dookhit) was slow losing one length.

THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a)	Jockey J Penny felt something amiss with TEO TORRIATTE and eased this filly out of the race from the 600m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. 
b)	Leaving the 400m, PLAY WITH FIRE (S Khumalo) was carried out by KEY WORKER (P Mxoli), which shifted out away from the crop. Shortly thereafter, Jockey P Mxoli (KEY WORKER) briefly dropped his left side rein. 
c)	Approaching the 100m, FREE IN SEATTLE (C Habib), which shifted out away from the crop, and PLAY WITH FIRE (S Khumalo), which shifted in away from the crop, came together and bumped which resulted in both these horses becoming unbalanced. Thereafter, shortly before the finish line, PLAY WITH FIRE (S Khumalo) and KEY WORKER (P Mxoli) came together and brushed. 
A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board, which was followed by an Objection being lodged by Jockey C Habib, on behalf of the second-placed horse, FREE IN SEATTLE, against the winner, PLAY WITH FIRE (S Khumalo), on the grounds of interference in the concluding stages. The Board, after giving regard to the evidence presented by the relevant parties, the movement of both horses, the proximity of the incident to the finish line and the distance of 0,20 lengths between the horses, was of the opinion that this incident had not affected the result, overruled the Objection and allowed the Judges result to stand. Jockey C Habib's deposit was refunded. 
d)	Jockey C Maujean (WEARINGOFTHEGREEN (IRE) did not persevere with his riding concluding stages. Thereafter, Jockey C Maujean reported that he felt something amiss with filly in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. 		
e)	PLAY WITH FIRE (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.

JOCKEY CHANGES:
a)	ANCIENT WISDOM was ridden by Jockey Wes Marwing	(declared 12 April 2025 at 09H18).	
Trainer A P Peter was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.1 in that he failed to declare a rider for ANCIENT WISDOM at the time of final acceptances.
Trainer A P Peter signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R1000 was imposed.  
b)	TEO TORRIATTE was ridden by Jockey	J Penny, who weighed out at 54,1kg, 1,0kg over the carded weight as declared (declared 12 April 2025 at 10H15).		
c)	FLAMBOYANT FLYER was ridden by Apprentice G Samo-Burthia (declared 12 April 2025 at 16H38).
This Jockey change was made with Stipes permission as Apprentice G Samo-Burthia was the only Rider available on course. 

RACECARD CHANGES / OTHER:
a)	HAT'S LADY raced equipped with alumites (declared 10 April 2025 at 08H49).
b)	KEY WORKER raced equipped with blinkers (declared 10 April 2025 at 08H47) and alumites (declared 10 April 2025 at 08H49).	

THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a)	WEARINGOFTHEGREEN (IRE) examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
b)	TEO TORRIATTE examined post race, nothing obvious detected. Veterinary report required prior to racing. Rule 49.7 applies. Assistant Trainer Moffatt, acting on behalf of Trainer C J Lensley, was advised (MB).
