KEEP YOUR LIGHT ON, DAYAN, GROOVY NEWS and LIGHTBEAM were slow into stride. KINGS ARCHER was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Howells was questioned with regard to the improved performance of KINGS ARCHER, the winner, compared to this colt's previous two performances over 1600 metres and 1400 metres. He explained that this colt is better suited to today's shorter distance of 1200 metres. Mr Howells undertook to race KINGS ARCHER over similar distances in future. GROOVY NEWS and KEEP YOUR LIGHT ON raced green. DAYAN, hanging in throughout, shifted in shortly after the start, resulting in GROOVY NEWS having to be eased off the heels of DAYAN. MICKEY GOSSIPER and GROOVY NEWS became inconvenienced on the inside of DAYAN at approximately the 200 metre mark. In view of the performances of SECRET LOVER and THE BELLMAN, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these horses. Vet: SECRET LOVER and THE BELLMAN - nothing obvious detected. DAYAN - abnormal respiratory noise. MICKEY GOSSIPER - mouth injury.
