The start of this race was delayed due to DE LA VERE proving difficult to canter to the start. This gelding was suspended indefinitely until it proves tractable cantering to the start at the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Board. HAMELIN BAY stumbled shortly after the start. SHADES OF SILENCE lost one length. Jockey Bester was charged with a contravention, read with Guideline M on the use of the crop, in that he used his crop with excessive frequency whilst riding the horse DE LA VERE. Jockey Bester signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in races for a period of seven days. Jockey Storey reported that DOUBLE BIND made an abnormal respiratory noise in running and did not persevere with his riding in the closing stages. Jockey Greyling reported that NEBRA did not stride out freely in running and did not persevere with his riding in the concluding stages. Jockey van Rensburg reported that CONSIDER THE CAT did not stride out freely in running and did not persevere with his riding from the 300m. Apprentice Ngcobo reported that GROOVY NEWS was coughing in running and did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. Jockey Yeni reported that SWIZZLE STICK changed stride continually in running and did not persevere with his riding from the 200m. GROOVY NEWS was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Jockey Fortune, the rider of DUCHESS CATHERINE, appeared before the Board, was shown the patrol films of the race and strongly advised to ride his mounts out to the end of the race in future. The Stipendiary Board allowed Jockey Bester to ride 1kg over the carded weight. SWIZZLE STICK raced equipped with alumites in front and unshod behind. DIESEL ENGINE raced without a tongue tie. Vet: SWIZZLE STICK - examined post race, no significant findings. CONSIDER THE CAT - not striding out left front. DOUBLE BIND - post race distress. NEBRA - broke down right front suspensory ligament. Indefinite suspension for a full veterinary report. GROOVY NEWS - coughing. HAMELIN BAY - not striding out left front.
