Heavy rain fell during the running of this Race. Jockey Veale did not ride at tonight's meeting (Flight complications/Satisfactory explanation tended to the Stipendiary Board). The start of this Race was delayed due to Jockey Mgudlwa being dislodged from RESPECTABLE ROCK en route to the start. This gelding proved difficult to take in hand. There was a further delay due to JOE'S JOY pulling the left fore shoe at the start which had to be re-fitted by the farrier. ROY'S MANJEERA was slow into stride. WOLF KILLER, MR T, RESPECTABLE ROCK and GREEN EMPEROR lost one length. NOBLE DUKE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer Lunn was questioned with regard to the improved performance of NOBLE DUKE compared to this gelding's previous performance over 1600 metres. He attributed the improvement shown to having reverted to the shorter distance of 1000 metres tonight, and further felt that this gelding was suited to racing with blinkers. He undertook to race NOBLE DUKE in sprint distances in his immediate future engagements. Mr Lunn's explanation was noted and the future performances of this gelding will be monitored. THE REFORMATION raced wide on the latter part of the bend and into the straight. WORLD DREAMER (AUS) was hanging out in the straight. In view of the performances of JOE'S JOY and MR T, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine these geldings. WORLD DREAMER (AUS) raced with cheek pieces. Vet: JOE'S JOY and MR T - nothing obvious detected. THE REFORMATION - coughing. Scratched: THEY SAY - elevated temperature.
