THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 1600m, THEATRICAL MOMENT (A Arries) was briefly tightened for galloping room when awkwardly placed on the inside of HOROSCOPE (A Mgudlwa) which rolled in when it raced wide in the early and middle stages. b) TOP SALUTE (J L Samuel) and CAPRICCIO (S Veale) over-raced in the early and middle stages. c) In the concluding stages, in a tightly bunched field, COOL APACHE (W Kennedy) appeared to hesitate when directed into a narrow run between ABBEY WOOD (C Habib) and MISSION BEACH (K de Melo) which rolled in marginally. As a consequence of this incident, Jockey W Kennedy was unable to fully assist COOL APACHE to the finish. d) Jockey M Yeni appeared before the Board regarding the change of tactics on FIRE FAERIE for today's run. In this regard, Jockey M Yeni was questioned regarding his decision to commit his mount from a deep draw around the field and into a forward position. Jockey M Yeni explained that his instructions were to race from a mid-field position as per this filly's usual running style. However, after assessing the field and FIRE FAERIE jumping favourably at the start today, he instead elected to adopt the more forward position which presented itself in the race. Trainer N Kotzen appeared before the Board and confirmed the above instructions to Jockey M Yeni. The Board noted both Jockey M Yeni's and Trainer N Kotzen's statements and advised each that should they elect to change tactics in such a distinct manner in future, the Stipendiary Board must be advised. e) Jockey S Moodley signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse TOMBOLA more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey S Moodley the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey S Moodley struck the horse TOMBOLA, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey S Moodley used his crop and his record (3) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. f) Jockey A Arries signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that he misused his crop by striking the horse THEATRICAL MOMENT more than 12 times in the entire race. In deciding what action to take against Jockey A Arries the Board considered the number of times (13) Jockey A Arries struck the horse THEATRICAL MOMENT, the distance over which and manner in which, Jockey A Arries used his crop and his record (2) in relation to this Rule. Accordingly, a penalty of R1000 was imposed. g) FIRE FAERIE (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
