THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) An Inquiry will be opened into Jockey S Khumalo's (NATIVE TONGUE ) crop use in this race. b) In the concluding stages, WEALTHY (S Veale) attempted to savage SIR MICHAEL (K de Melo). c) Jockey S Khumalo (NATIVE TONGUE) and Jockey D Dillon (GENTLEMAN'S WAGER) reported their respective mounts did not act in the going. d) Jockey D Dillon appeared before the Board and was questioned on why he opted to look for cover rather than lead on GENTLEMAN'S WAGER. Whilst the Board acknowledged that this gelding was versatile and could be ridden from various positions, the Board drew Jockey D Dillon's attention to this gelding's last run in a strong race when it lead from the start to the finish and requested clarity as to why a similar ride was not preferrable in today's race. In this regard, Jockey D Dillon explained that, this gelding had not travelled as well in the early part of the race as it did in its previous run and it had not enjoyed today's soft conditions. Accordingly, today he elected to use this gelding's versatile racing style and settle him in to race in a handy position rather than on the lead. The Board noted and accepted Jockey D Dillon's explanation. e) In view of the performance of GURU'S PRIDE (S Moodley) (7.15 lengths, 40/1 in the betting) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) DONALD MCDONALD (W Kennedy), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
